In August we digitised 81 yearbooks for Bergs Hembygdsförening in southern Jämtland. Now the society has given us a follow-up assignment: another 19 publications about the area, just over 3,000 pages in all.
Two of them are festive issues of Bergvind from the Berg summer assembly of 1912 and 1913, printed in newspaper format. They complement the 1914–1970 volumes from the first assignment.
The other 17 are books and booklets on local history — from Kalle Ekbom's Kulturbilder från Bärg, Rätan och Klöfsjö (1905) and Mattias Ling's Bidrag till Bergs sockenkrönika (1914) to the village books on Oppbygda, Östberg, Vigge, Lillhallen and Rörön, the two parts of Hoverbergsgubben berättar, the anniversary publications Kyrkan som fäderna byggde (1947) and Från byskola till centrumkyrka (1997), Klövsjöboken and Persontabeller ur Berg och Åsarne 1936–1990.
Both covers and book blocks were scanned at 600 dpi in colour — the book blocks on our Inotec Scamax 6x1 and the covers on our Image Access Bookeye 5 overhead scanner. We then processed page edges and more in our own in-house application, and price labels, stains and label remnants on the back covers were retouched away at pixel level, using the paper's own texture.
